Sandy • The chatter surrounding Real Salt Lake since late Wednesday evening was digging deep, tapping into the well of pride.

Three days after the Portland Timbers effectively ended RSL's postseason streak at seven straight seasons, the league's best team, FC Dallas, came to town.

In front of a patchy crowd — not to mention monsoon conditions in the second half — RSL struggled to capitalize on the chances it created.

RSL lost 1-0 to FC Dallas on Saturday night. It was the team's sixth home shutout of 2015 and 14th of the season.

"We created enough chances to score, to win," RSL coach Jeff Cassar said.

Four shots on goal and 66 percent possession in the first half couldn't be translated into a goal.

Under attack for most of the first half, FC Dallas absorbed pressure and escaped unscathed. In the second half, the West leaders improved as Uruguayan forward David Texeira put FC Dallas up 1-0 in the 57th minute with a left-footed finish inside the box.

Allotted time, playmaker Mauro Diaz saw Texeira making a run by center back Elias Vasquez. The through ball was perfect. Texeira had time to collect himself before curling the ball into the back of the net by goalkeeper Jeff Attinella. It was Diaz's 10th assist of 2015.

"Really unacceptable," Cassar said. "Two simple balls, two passes [and] it's in the back of our net. I think we tuned off for a half-second."

"Marking wasn't good enough, space wasn't good enough," defender Tony Beltran said.

FC Dallas star Fabian Castillo nearly put the game out of reach just a minute later, but Attinella stuffed the Colombian winger's shot from 12 yards out.

In the start that made him Major League Soccer's all-time appearances leader, Kyle Beckerman had a shot at adding to his memorable evening in the 31st minute. The RSL captain drifted unmarked six yards from goal as Javier Morales delivered a cross. The ball curled to Beckerman, but his header went high of the goal.

Five minutes later, FC Dallas goalkeeper Jesse Gonzalez kept his team knotted. Burrito Martinez got on the end of a broken play in the box and made a quick turn and shot on goal, but Gonzalez sprung off his line and stopped Martinez.

"Dallas was bending all over the place, but they didn't break — we didn't make the break," Cassar said. "We didn't put it in the back of the net."

RSL pressed for an equalizer in the second half, but it never came. All FC Dallas needed was a momentary lapse. It got it and took it.

"Disappointed doesn't even cut it anymore," Beltran said. "It's just not good enough."
