One night after the Utah Grizzlies scored seven goals against Allen, the hosts buckled down on the defensive end and shut down the Americans in a 4-2 victory on Saturday night in ECHL action at the Maverik Center.

The game was tied at 2 going into the third period before the Grizzlies pulled through. The Utah offense put 19 shots on Allen goalie Joel Rumpel, with Robert Lipsbergs' shot getting through for a 3-2 lead. T.J. Syner scored an empty-netter with 37 seconds remaining.

"I'm extremely proud of the way the boys played in the third period," Grizzlies coach Tim Branham said. "It was a great puck possession game, we manufactured shots well and our defense made great plays."

Following a scoreless first period, the second was anything but. Both teams scored twice and in the center of it all was a violent brawl that erupted in front of the Grizzlies' bench and resulted in five players finding their way into the penalty box.

Allen went up 1-0 at 3:21 as Gary Steffes scored. Utah's Eric Knodel followed with a laser from the blue line to even the game at 1 and Alex Krushelynski put the home team ahead with a power-play goal before the Americans fought back as Casey Pierro-Zabotel tied the game at 2. —
