As former BYU star Trent Plaisted worked out for various NBA teams the past few weeks, one club that seemed especially interested in the forward-center was the Detroit Pistons.

Sure enough, the 6-foot-11 Plaisted is likely to end up with the Pistons, after he was selected in the second round of Thursday's NBA Draft by the Seattle SuperSonics. A proposed trade would send Plaisted to Detroit, pending NBA approval.

Plaisted, a native of San Antonio, Texas, was the 46th overall selection in the draft, as Seattle took him with the 16th pick of the second round in an agreement with Detroit.

"I am very excited to be selected and be part of a great organization," Plaisted said. "Detroit has had a lot of success and has been pretty interested in me from the beginning.

"It's a great situation for me, and I'm excited to help contribute in any way I can."

Plaisted is the 44th player from BYU to be picked in the NBA Draft, second-most among Mountain West Conference teams. UNLV has had 49 players drafted.

However, the first MWC player taken Thursday was New Mexico's J.R. Giddens, who was taken by Boston with the last pick of the first round.

Plaisted averaged 15.6 points and 7.7 rebounds for BYU as a junior last season.

Meanwhile, Utah State guard Jaycee Carroll, who became the Aggies' career scoring leader during the 2007-08 season, went undrafted.
