Posted: 3:43 PM- University of Utah football coach Kyle Whittingham's team beat Brigham Young football coach Bronco Mendenhall's team in the annual Rivalry for Charity golf tournament at The Country Club in Salt Lake City on Monday.

Whittingham's team shot a 16-under-par 56 in the scramble format, while Mendenhall's team shot a 62.

Per tournament rules, Mendenhall had to sing the Utah fight song, "I am a Utah man, sir," at a post-tournament luncheon for the third straight year at a function that benefits the Utah Chapter of the National Kidney Foundation.

Mendenhall put a Utah cap on backwards and sang an altered verse of the song, accompanied by a trumpeteer and several BYU cheerleaders.

As consolation to Mendenhall, chapter president Dave Trimble noted that the loser of the last three golf tournaments has gone on to win the big football game in the fall.

Whittingham's team consisted of Jay Peery and Tracy Zobell. A fourth player did not show up, so the other golfers took turns hitting shots for him. Mendenhall's team featured Todd Miller, Jason Hargett and Justin Greening.

Whittingham described his golf game as "brutal," while Mendenhall said of his: "On a scale of one to 10 in brutal-ness, a 10."

The coaches' teams were not eligible for the grand prize -- round trip air travel certificates and invitations to compete in the National Kidney Foundation championship at Pebble Golf Links and surrounding courses in Monterey, Calif.

The winning team of Vaughn Pulispher, Brandon Pulsipher, Robbie Bosco and Brian Santiago shot a 59.
