WEST VALLEY CITY - Anybody who questions the legitimacy of the top-seeded Las Vegas Wranglers needs only to ask a Utah Grizzlies player.

For the 14th consecutive time this season, the Grizzlies skated off the ice on Friday on the losing end of a tilt against the Wranglers. This time around though, it meant a little more - the end of Utah's season.

The Wranglers jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first period and never looked back, running away with a 5-2 victory at the E Center.

"That's a good club over there and we wish them nothing but the best," Utah coach Jason Christie said.

The win wraps up a 4-0 sweep for the Wranglers, who will meet the winner of the American Conference Final between Cincinnati and South Carolina in the Kelly Cup Championship.

The Grizzlies' lackluster first-period effort may have been a product of the debilitating Game 3 overtime loss suffered on Thursday night, but Christie wasn't making excuses after the game.

"We gave up a couple goals right off the bat there and then had a [power play]," Christie said. "We felt like we were battling back after we scored our goal, but then they scored another one and it was an uphill battle after that."

As it has done all series, the Wrangler defense stifled the Grizzlies for the majority of the game. Utah had several opportunities to score in power play situations, but just couldn't find the back of the net.

"[Las Vegas goalie Kevin] Lalande came up with some key saves," Christie said. "He really came up big for them."

It didn't take long for the visiting team to get on the scoreboard as the Wranglers' Mike Madill found the back of the net just over two minutes into the game.

Utah's Ryan Kinasewich knotted the score 1-1 at the 7:59 mark thanks to a pretty assist from forward Keith Johnson, but the rest of the opening period belonged to Las Vegas. The Wranglers would score three consecutive goals to carry a sizable 4-1 lead into the opening intermission.

The Grizzlies got some reprieve midway through the second period on a power play when Andrew MacDonald found James Sanford for a top-shelf goal, but it was short-lived.

The Wranglers bounced back with a goal of their own later in the second-pushing the score to 5-2-and sustained that lead for the remainder of the game.
