Posted: 4:49 PM- At least Utah Blaze coach Danny White is keeping a sense of humor through what has become, by far, the worst season in his playing or coaching career.
Told recently that Saturday's home game against the 1-7 Kansas City Brigade represents perhaps the 0-9 Blaze's best chance for a win this season, White replied, "It's their best chance for a win, too."
Other than horrible records, the only similarities between the two teams are that both are desperate for a win and both are clinging to slim playoff hopes, thanks to the fact that six of the eight clubs in the American Conference will make postseason play.
"They are going to be just as hungry as us," Blaze receiver Huey Whittaker said. "It is not necessarily going to be a sure win. And they aren't going to come in thinking that because we haven't won a game, we will be easy to beat. They won't overlook us."
Kansas City's problems have primarily been on offense and it is currently starting a rookie quarterback, D Bryant, after trying several others this season. The Brigade signed former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Quincy Carter on Thursday, but he is not on the active roster and won't play tonight.
Utah's woes have mostly been on defense, although the offense has had its share of stumbles, too.
"I have always hated playing teams that didn't have a

win, because I didn't want to be the only team that they beat," White said. "Now, the shoe is on the other foot, and I am sure Kansas City feels like this is [its] best chance to get its second win and doesn't want to be the team that loses to us."
Whittaker, quarterback Joe Germaine and defensive end Maurice Fountain all said the Blaze's morale is good, despite the winless record.
"Our attitude is where it needs to be," Germaine said. "We are trying to just turn this around, one game at a time. We feel good about what we've done so far in practice this week. That's about all we can do."
Fountain played against Bryant last year when both were in af2, and says the Blaze can rattle the rookie if they can get some pressure on him early.
"He can be erratic with the ball if you get a little pressure on him," said Fountain, who had two sacks two weeks ago against San Jose.
Fountain will likely start again tonight in favor of E.J. Burt, who is listed as questionable. Also, former BYU lineman Jake Kuresa will probably start at offensive guard in place of Myniya Smith, who struggled last week with holding penalties.
"This has to be the week we get a win. It has to be," Fountain said. "Not to put pressure on ourselves, but everybody feels like that. We need to go out there and take advantage of the home crown and play well against a team that is down and out and get the ball rolling."
