Posted: 9:54 AM- Those who noticed Utah football coach Kyle Whittingham wearing a black Under Armour shirt in Wednesday's TV interviews and at the Utes' signing day party got an idea of what is to come for the program.

The Utes are switching from Nike to Under Armour as a sponsor for their football gear in a deal that will be made official any day now.

"We're still working on the contract and hope to get it done soon," associate athletic director Pete Oliszczak said Thursday. "We were hoping to get it done yesterday, but it's taking a little longer."

While the brands change, fans shouldn't expect much of an overhaul of Utah's uniforms. The team's colors will remain crimson and white, although there are some artist renderings of black uniforms, leaving open the possibility of some special-occassion uniforms that has been a growing trend for football programs.

"I know all the players want black uniforms, but black will still be an accent color for us," said Robert Wiscomb, Utah's director of equipment operations. "It would take a lot for the administration to be convinced to go away from crimson and white. Those are still our colors."

The Utes have been with Nike for more than 10 years, but were unhappy with the service the company gave them as one of their smaller clients. Often, Utah's colors were mismatched reds and shipment orders were delayed.

Utah will be only the fifth football program with Under Armour, joining Auburn, Maryland, South Carolina and Texas Tech.

Under Armour was founded in 1996 by former Maryland football player Kevin Plank and has been making inroads into Nike's market since then.

Already, the company does some sponsorships for Utah's women's tennis team, Wiscomb said.
