Skyline's Dani Peterson is regarded as one of the top female prep basketball players in the state.

Humility is also one of her best characteristics.

Peterson, a 6-foot-2 forward, orally committed to Brigham Young University a few months ago, but didn't tell a lot of people "because I didn't want to brag or anything. I just kept it on the down-low."

The senior confirmed the commitment last week, saying she wants to stay in the state to play in front of friends and family, and BYU is the best place for her to do that.

"I just felt more comfortable around BYU's coaches than other coaches in the state," she said, noting that Utah showed a lot of interest but never came through with an offer before she decided on BYU.

Peterson is the fifth member of the club basketball team known as Salt Lake Metro to commit to a Division I school this year. Beaver's Morgan Wood recently committed to Southern Utah, where she will join Canyon View's Cassie Platt. Timpview's Alexis Kaufusi will play with Peterson at BYU, while Box Elder's Mandy Munns has pledged to Utah.

Peterson averaged 16.1 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game last year while leading Skyline to a 22-2 record and the 5-A state championship. She shot 63 percent from the field and 47 percent from three-point range. She was a Salt Lake Tribune first-team all-state selection.

"Peterson is the most difficult matchup in the state," noted the Intermountain Hoops Scouting Service. "She can score inside or take you outside and put in on the floor."
