League fines RSL, pulls draft pick over hiring

Posted: 3:58 PM- Real Salt Lake was fined $20,000 by Major League Soccer and lost a draft pick for failing to follow league rules during its hiring of FC Dallas goalkeeper coach Jeff Cassar.

The league awarded RSL's natural 2009 second round selection to FC Dallas for improper contact with a coach of an opposing team.

The league also fined FC Dallas $5,000 for not adhering to regulations regarding contact with a player of an opposing team.

MLS issued a warning to Real Salt Lake for mentioning New England's Shalrie Joseph by name during a discussion about the type of player the club might pursue.
