BEES: Colon shuts down 51s

LAS VEGAS - Bartolo Colon, the 2005 American League Cy Young Award winner down on a rehab assignment from the Los Angeles Angels, threw seven shutout innings for the Salt Lake Bees in their 8-2 Pacific Coast League victory against the Las Vegas 51s on Sunday.

Colon allowed just three hits while striking out three and walking one.

Meanwhile, the Bees' offense pounded out 16 hits on the day, including a 4-for-5 effort by Matt Brown that included two doubles and two RBIs. Nathan Haynes went 3-for-4 and Brandon Wood went 3-for-5.

Salt Lake's Terry Evans stretched his hitting streak to 11 games with a pair of hits, while Haynes' hitting streak reached 10 games.

The two teams conclude their series tonight at 8 p.m.
