TURIN, Italy - Apolo Anton Ohno of Seattle won the Turinn Olympics bronze medal in the men's 1,000-meter event in short track speedskating Saturday night at the Palavela, rounding the rink in a time of 1 minute, 26.927 seconds.
His time eclipsed the Olympic record set earlier in the evening by U.S. teammate Rusty Smith of Long Beach, Calif., who came in fourth in the final.
The gold medal went to Korea's Hyun-Soo Ahn, whose 1:26.739 now stands as the Olympic record. He edged out teammate Ho-Suk Lee, who won the silver medal in a time of 1:26.764, a margin measuring approximately one foot.
Ohno's bronze is the 13th medal won by an American at the 2006 Olympic Winter Games, matching the best U.S. output for a non-domestic Olympic Winter Games. The United States won 13 in 1994 in Lillehammer and again in 1998 in Nagano.
