Willie Pratt

TAYLORSVILLE BASKETBALL

Willie Pratt's 41 points on Friday night tied the state's individual game-high scoring mark for the season.

"He's more than just a scorer," Warriors coach John Bowman said. "His rebounding and defense is instrumental in the success we're having right now."

Pratt also drained five three-pointers and scored 41 points in just 2 1/2 quarters in Taylorsville's victory over Jordan.

Cassie Platt

CANYON VIEW BASKETBALL

The leading scorer of 3-A's top-ranked team, Platt fits the definition of the classic point guard. A sophomore, Platt averages 11 points, 5.5 assists, three steals and four rebounds per game.

Last week, Platt led her team in scoring in a 36-28 win over Pine View with 10 points. She then scored 22 points in a 50-37 win over rival Cedar City.

Each week during the school year, The Salt Lake Tribune selects a male and female high school athlete of the week based on performance. An athlete of the month will be chosen from the weekly selections. Those honorees become finalists for Utah Athlete of the Year and a $1,000 scholarship from Ken Garff Automotive Group. To nominate an athlete, call the sports desk at 801-257-8900.
