Real Salt Lake released defender Matt Behncke, it announced Monday, to make room for recently acquired forward Melvin Tarley.
Tarley is on loan to RSL from the Minnesota Thunder of the USL's A-League, as reported last week. The 6-foot-1 forward can be recalled at any time. The Thunder's regular season is over, but the team is in the semifinals of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. He will be available for Wednesday's game at D.C. United.
Behncke started in seven games for RSL this season, appearing in eight, as the back line underwent a number of changes during the first half of the year. A four-year MLS veteran, Behncke started 14 games for FC Dallas in 2004.
