Real Salt Lake coach John Ellinger has found another little-known gem for the team.

Real general manager Steve Pastorino announced Thursday that the team has signed a contract with defender Marlon Rojas of Trinidad and Tobago. And the chances are, Rojas will be on the field when the team kicks off for the first time against the MetroStars on April 2.

"[Rojas] is another example of the network that John has among other coaches," Pastorino said. "He is a player that has been overlooked by the other MLS teams."

At a media roundtable Thursday, the team unveiled a list of the probable starters for the opener at the Meadowlands. Rojas, 25, was listed as a left-side defender, and will start in the back next to Matt Behncke, Brian Dunseth and Rusty Pierce.

The team also showed Brian Kamler at the defensive-midfield position, Evan Whitfield and Pablo Brenes on the outside of the midfield and Andy Williams in the forward-midfield position. Jason Kreis and Clint Mathis were the forwards.

Rojas is a regular starter with the Trinidad and Tobago national team and also has played with D.C. United during a tour through Mexico. He won the NCAA Division II championship in 2001 with Tampa University and advanced to the sweet sixteen in 2000 with St. John's.

Real also announced that one of the participants in last Saturday's tryout, 22-year-old Kevin Novak, has been invited to training camp, starting Feb. 1 in Bradenton, Fla. Depending on his performance, Novak could be on either Real's developmental or senior rosters.

Four other players have been invited to camp on a trial basis: goalkeeper Rich Cullen and midfielders Bryan Jackson, Leighton O'Brien and Joey Worthen. Worthen, from Taylorsville, played with the Richmond Kickers of the A-League in the United Soccer Leagues organization.
