Real Salt Lake's acquisition of players Evan Whitfield and Dipsy Selolwane was approved by Major League Soccer on Thursday.

The deal, originally reported in Thursday's The Salt Lake Tribune, was agreed to in principle on Wednesday, but was waiting on league approval.

RSL general manager Steve Pastorino expected all the details to be finalized today.

Whitfield, a defender, and Selolwane, a forward, were traded to RSL from the Chicago Fire.

In exchange, RSL gave up a third-round draft pick in the 2005 SuperDraft and a second-round pick in 2006.

Although joining a new team, Whitfield and Selolwane should be in comfortable on the field in Utah. Two other players from the Chicago Fire also will play for Real next year: midfielder/forward Andy Williams and goalkeeper D.J. Countess.

Williams and Countess were RSL's first- and second-round picks in November's expansion draft. The team now has filled 14 of its available 28 roster spots.
