MIDWAY - About 230 competitors began the 25th annual Wasatch 100 endurance run at 5 a.m. Saturday in Kaysville. But only about 130 finished the race Sunday at the Homestead Resort in the Heber Valley.

Due to the heat Saturday - temperatures soared close to 90 degrees - a higher number of racers than normal did not finish.

But Utahn Karl Meltzer was not among the 100 or so who had to declare "DNF" on their race form.

Meltzer, 36, won his fourth Wasatch 100 with a blazing time of 20 hours, six minutes and eight seconds. It was his 25th career win in an ultra-marathon.

The best female finisher was Krissy Moehl Sybrowsky, who took seventh place overall with a time of 23:49.47. She was the fifth woman in history to finish the Wasatch 100 in fewer than 24 hours, and it was her first 100-mile race.

Another Utahn, Tim Spence, placed second with a time of 22:42.49, more than 2 1/2 hours behind Meltzer. David Hunt was third, at 22:45.14.
