ATHENS, Greece Maybe all the USA basketball team needs is a road game to turn things around in the Olympics.
The Americans had better hope so, because it's too late for any trades or other roster moves.
Coming off Sunday's shocking loss to Puerto Rico the Americans' third defeat ever in the Olympics they will encounter a tough environment tonight at the Helliniko Indoor Arena. They play Greece, whose fans will pack the 12,000-seat building and make all kinds of noise.
The crowd actually favored the Americans against Puerto Rico, although the response was about split when the upset possibility became more of a reality. Besides having the home-court advantage, Greece will be heartened by the evidence that the Americans are vulnerable.
"No one's in awe," U.S. forward Lamar Odom said. "Everyone wants to come out and play their best against us."
Puerto Rico may have just as much difficulty recovering from Sunday's game. The emotional victory was certainly just as draining as the loss was to the Americans, and now Puerto Rico must summon the same energy against Lithuania.
Australia, featuring University of Utah center Andrew Bogut, meets Angola as pool play continues.
As for the Americans, they are sure to face zone defenses until they can prove they can hit outside shots. They hit only 34 percent against Puerto Rico, going 3-for-24 from three-point range.
"We packed it in. You can't play them one-on-one, or they'll kill you," said Jazz guard Carlos Arroyo, Puerto Rico's star Sunday.
Tonight's game also is important in regard to defining U.S. forward Carlos Boozer's role with the team. The newly acquired Jazzman played 11 minutes Sunday, with most of his time on the floor coming during Puerto Rico's 28-7 second-quarter blitz.
