Cougars rally past Utes in 9th

Alex Wolfe hit a two-run, walk-off homer to cap BYU's three-run rally in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Cougars beat Utah 6-4 on Saturday in Provo.

Utah (19-18, 7-8 Mountain West) broke a 3-3 tie in the top of the eighth inning with Nik Gumeson scoring on a two-out RBI single by Michael Beltran.

BYU's Austin Hall led off the bottom of the ninth with a single, and stole second base before scoring on Bryce Ayoso's two-out single. Wolfe ended the game with a two-run shot to left field off Ute reliever Zach Adams.

BYU improved to 18-20 and 6-9.

Softball

UNLV 4-8, Utah 0-1 » Utah's Tia Palauni and Kara Foster had two hits each in the doubleheader in Salt Lake City, but the Utes (21-23, 3-5) lost both games, after entering the day with a four-game winning streak.

Seattle 11-6, Utah Valley 1-5 » In Orem, the Redhawks swept the Wolverines in the Pacific Coast Softball Conference doubleheader, one day after UVU swept Seattle. Shaylyn Varney hit a homer for UVU's only run in the first game. UTU outhit Seattle 10-7 in Game 2.

Men's tennis

BYU 6, Utah 1 » In Salt Lake City, the Cougars (21-5, 6-0 MWC) wrapped up the regular-season conference title. Utah's lone win was at No. 1 singles, where Phillip Eilers beat Thomas Shubert 3-6, 7-6 (7-6), 6-3.
