Americans close gap on Serbs

Bob Bryan and John Isner defeated Nenad Zimonjic and Janko Tipsarevic 7-6 (8), 5-7, 7-6 (8), 6-3 in doubles on Saturday in Belgrade, Serbia, to keep the United States alive in the Davis Cup first round, cutting Serbia's lead to 2-1. Isner was a replacement for Bryan's twin, Mike , who was sidelined with food poisoning.

Isner will face Novak Djokovic in singles today. Sam Querrey and Viktor Troicki will meet in the final match.

Cubs' Guzman out with shoulder injury

MLB » Angel Guzman , who overcame years of injury problems to finally have the kind of season the Chicago Cubs had envisioned, is out with a torn ligament in his pitching shoulder. GM Jim Hendry said there was no timetable for Guzman's return. The 28-year-old Guzman appeared in 55 games last season, going 3-3 with a 2.95 ERA.
