Former University of Utah skier Chirine Njeim, competing in her third Olympics for Lebanon, wore a Ute ski suit in Saturday's super-G event, finishing 37th among 53 contestants. To her credit, she kept the run alive after skiing far outside on an early turn.
Njeim, whose inspiring personal story likely will be detailed in Monday's Tribune, is always the subject of some fascination in these Games. When she told another coach where she was from, he replied, "And you're skiing?"
Lebanon does have six ski hills, and is not, as she said, just "desert and camels and sand."
Track too fast
Bobsled pilot Shauna Rohbock of Orem is voicing concerns about the safety of the track on which she will drive next week at the Vancouver Olympics.
"I wish people knew how fast it was. ... It looks fast, but if you were to drive it, you would be, like, this is just ... I come out the finish run, and I laugh, but sometimes I'm actually like, 'I'm scared right now.' It is so fast, and I'm like, 'Holy crap.' This is just stupid. This is so stupid."
