Kaysville » Jay Welk's not one to hand out superlatives on a regular basis. Such is the perfectionist of a coach he is.
So it says a lot about how dominant Davis was on Tuesday night when, immediately after, Welk called the Darts 62-44 win over Fremont, "Our best game of the season against a quality team."
Indeed, Davis was complete on both ends of the floor. In defeating the Silver Wolves, moving to 12-1 in Region one and 16-2 overall, the Darts led by as much as 18 points, dominated scoring in the paint, and forged a first place tie with Fremont.
"I thought this performance was very similar to what we faced last year," Welk said.
"We lost one in the league early, we had to fight back and we did. Tonight, we executed very well, we defended well and we shot the ball well. I'm very proud of our kids tonight."
It was an efficient performance that allowed the Darts to pull away. Davis shot 7-for-14 from three-point range. The Darts shot 61 percent from the field and they limited Fremont to 35 percent shooting in kind.
Armed with that, Davis received a dominant offensive effort from Tallon Burton who scored a game-high 26 points. Burton was unstoppable in the paint, but was also explosive from the perimeter, hitting three shots from beyond the three-point arc.
He had plenty of help from Landon Horne who scored 13 points and nine rebounds.
The Darts ended the game by scoring 20 of the final 29 points. They went on prolonged runs at the beginning of the third and fourth quarters, and they never let the Silver Wolves come closer than 42-35.
Davis moves to 12-1 in Region 1 and pull into a first place tie with Fremont.
