Rice, Smith to lead 7 into Hall

All-time greats Jerry Rice and Emmitt Smith led a class of seven into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday. The NFL's career receiving and rushing leaders were joined in the Hall by John Randle , Russ Grimm , Rickey Jackson , Floyd Little and Dick LeBeau . Little and LeBeau were elected as senior committee nominees.

Rice and Smith both made it in their first year of eligibility.

The class will be inducted into the Canton, Ohio, shrine on Aug. 7.

Martin, Earnhardt on front row

motorsports » Hendrick Motorsports teammates Mark Martin and Dale Earnhardt Jr. secured the front row for the Daytona 500 on Saturday in Daytona Beach, Fla. Martin, the only driver to top 191 mph during qualifying, earned his first Daytona 500 pole. Earnhardt will start second, trying to rebound from the worst season in his Sprint Cup career. The rest of the 43-man field will be set in Thursday's 150-mile qualifying races.

» IndyCar star Danica Patrick finished sixth in her stock car debut at Daytona International Speedway in the ARCA season opener. Bobby Gerhart won the race.

» Kevin Harvick won the Budweiser Shootout for the second consecutive season. Kasey Kahne was second in the Daytona exhibition race, followed by Jamie McMurray , Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin .
