Utah senior Jamie Deetscreek , who hit her floor routine a week ago but scored just 9.525 because the judges thought her routine was missing an element, changed her routine for Friday's meet at Arizona State.

She upgraded the finish and changed the troublesome leap. Her efforts paid off as she scored a 9.775, her second-highest score of the year, with the adjusted routine.

Deetscreek was deducted on a leap a week ago for having her knees bent; all she had to do to get full credit was straighten her legs. The change on her last pass was a little more challenging as she added in a double pike.

"That was big for her," Utah coach Greg Marsden said. "She still has some work to do on her middle pass so it's a work in progress, but I was really happy with it tonight."

Starting strong

Junior Jacquelyn Johnson , who scored a 9.75 a week ago at Washington when she replaced Cortni Beers in the lineup, was given another chance to lead off the event Friday.

She pulled a repeat performance Friday, scoring another 9.75 as the replacement for Kyndal Robarts .

The routines were the first of the season for Johnson, a former U.S. National Team member who has struggled with injuries.

Junior Gael Mackie 's struggles continued with a fall on the uneven bars. It was her third fall this year. The other two were on the floor. After her fall Friday she was pulled from the vault lineup and replaced by Stephanie McAllister who scored a 9.8.

After two meets on the road, the Utes return home to compete against Utah State on Friday. ... Freshman Katelyn Mohr competed for the second time on the floor.
