Utah senior gymnast Jamie Deetscreek said it was "hard to crack a smile" this week in practice because of the intensity, but she didn't have a hard time grinning Friday after the Utes defeated Iowa State 196.300-195.350.

Deetscreek won the all-around with a 39.425, scoring 9.825s on the vault and floor, a 9.875 on the uneven bars and a 9.9 on the balance beam.

"It wasn't so much about winning, but hitting all my routines," she said. "It was a big confidence booster for me."

The all-around win was Deetscreek's first since taking the title in the season opener against UCLA in 2009.

"She emerged as one of our strongest all-arounders last year," Utah coach Greg Marsden said. "With [ Nina Kim ] and [ Kristina Baskett ] leaving, she and [ Daria Bijak ] are the ones we expect to get out there and finish us off do well as all-arounders."

Personal best

Kyndal Robarts delivered the final punch for Utah's gymnastics team on the vault Saturday, winning the event with a career high 9.925.

Her previous best was a 9.9, which she had earned four other times.

Robarts would have been a contender for the all-around title but was pulled from the balance beam lineup due to a nagging groin injury that bothered her during her front aerial.

"I didn't notice it during the meet," Robarts said of the injury. "I had a lot of adrenaline going."

Robarts scored a 9.725 on the uneven bars and a 9.875 on the floor.

Annie DiLuzio 's 9.85 on the balance beam tied her career best. ... Cortni Beers tied her career best on beam for the second week in a row with a 9.725. ... Freshman Katelyn Mohr was scheduled to compete on the floor but was replaced by Stephanie McAllister .
