The College of William and Mary, Weber State's opponent in the first round of the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs, is just beginning to see what kind of team the Wildcats are.

"I haven't seen that much of the teams from that part of the country," said William and Mary coach Jimmye Laycock . "We've just begun breaking down the tapes we got on them and they look to be a very good and very physical team. But it's hard at this stage in preparation to make too many observations about them."

On the other hand, Weber State started doing its homework as soon as it found out which team they would be playing.

Because Weber State had an academic day on Monday, coach Ron McBride couldn't start getting his players prepared. But he knows what kind of team the Tribe are and compares them to Montana, a team the Wildcats lost 31-10 to earlier in the season.

"They have one of the top defenses in the country," McBride said. "[Our] offensive line is going to be a big factor. They're a zone team and they run a good play action. They're just a very solid team."

Weber State player honored

In the last week of the regular season, Weber State linebacker Nick Webb was honored as the conference's defensive player of the week.

In a 47-14 win over Cal Poly on Saturday, the sophomore had nine tackles, forced a fumble and also recovered a fumble.

that held the Mustangs to just 14 points and 314 yards of total offense.

A Wildcat Thanksgiving

Weber State will have a short week to prepare for William and Mary. The players couldn't get on the field Monday, as it was an academic day. The players will practice Tuesday and Wednesday and early Thursday before having a team Thanksgiving at a local restaurant in Ogden.

Then the Wildcats will leave for Williamsburg, Va., at 4 p.m. Thursday and have a walk-through at Zable Stadium on Friday.

"As the stakes get bigger, time is more precious," McBride said. "We're going to have a short week but we just gotta get it done."
