Seven players found the back of the net for the Idaho Steelheads--five goals coming on the power play--as they routed the Utah Grizzlies 7-2 Friday at the E Center. Ryan Kinasewich scored his second goal at 18:44 in the second period to cut the lead to 5-2, but Tyler Spurgeon scored 27 seconds into the third period--again on the power play--to put the game out of reach.

Utah had trouble keeping five players on the ice. The Grizzlies racked up 37 penalty minutes--16 in the third period--and Idaho took advantage. The Grizzlies killed only two of six power plays and scored only one power play goal themselves. As the lead became insurmountable at 6-2, the Grizzlies frustration was evident. At the 4:40 mark in the third, four Grizzlies cozied up together in the penalty box.

"We were just undisciplined," Kinasewich said. "You're not going to win many games when you're in the box (that much)...I don't even think we had a five on five shift." The Steelheads' behavior garnered 35 minutes in penalties as well, but much of it was in retaliation.

Idaho took a 2-1 lead in the first period and won the second period 3-1, giving it a three-goal margin heading into the third. Kevin DeVergilio and Ashton Rome scored 23 seconds apart in the second. No matter where Utah looked, there was a Steelhead ready to score. There were one-timers, rebounds and assists to go around as ten Idaho players scored at least one point. Kinasewich's goal near the end of the second period slowed the bleeding and made it look like the Grizzlies might have a run in them. But as soon as Spurgeon put home his goal, the rout was ensured.

"We feel like we have some momentum going into the third and then they score 30 second in," Kinasewich said.
