Utah's best high school girls basketball player is leaving the state to play her college basketball.
Layton Christian's Jasmine Porter, ranked as one of the top 100 players in the country, committed to San Diego State on Wednesday morning in a news conference at her high school.
Porter, a 6-foot-2-inch-tall guard/forward, will sign with SDSU when the early signing period for basketball begins Nov. 11. Porter, a first-team Salt Lake Tribune all-stater last season, had narrowed her choices to SDSU, Utah State and Colorado before choosing the Aztecs, who are ranked No. 23 in one major preseason women's college basketball poll.
Porter's father, Bobby, who is LCA's boys coach, said his daughter chose SDSU because she likes its playing style and believes she will have the opportunity to get playing time next year.
Porter will play the three spot (small forward) for the Aztecs and she likes the direction the program is heading. Porter mentioned that coach Raegan Pebley of USU made it difficult to turn down the Aggies.
Jasmine Porter is the 92nd best player in the country, according to the Web site hoopgurlz.com. She also heavily considered UNLV, and was recruited by Villanova, Pitt, South Carolina and Utah, among others.
