The Davis girls' soccer team came one step closer to locking down its second consecutive Region 1 title on Tuesday, defeating Syracuse 2-0 to improve to 11-1 on the season. While the win was only one of seven shutouts over the past nine games, the injury-riddled Darts were happy to emerge unscathed from the late season region matchup.

"We're nursing some injuries, so our goal was just to get through this game," said Davis coach Souli Phongsauath. "We didn't play as well as we could but we had plenty of chances. And that's fine with me."

After all, defense has become the Darts primary focus as they prepare for the upcoming state tournament.

"After we allowed three goals against Layton, we changed our focus," said Phongsauath. "For two straight weeks, all we focused on was defense. We knew our offense was there, but we needed to make sure we could minimize what others could do."

Syracuse forward Felicia Sorter did not make that task easy. The Titans' leading scorer kept Davis' defense on its toes throughout the second half, forcing the Darts to mark her for the entire 80 minutes.

Despite her offensive effort, the Titans were unable to add a blemish to the Darts near-spotless defensive record.

Brighton rallies to be Lone Peak

Volleyball » Being the only senior for the Brighton volleyball team, Lori Mendenhall understands that the most important thing she can bring to the table is her leadership.

She's had experience since she became Brighton's starting setter her sophomore year, and she knows what to do when her team needs a point.

Against Lone Peak on Tuesday, Mendenhall came up with crucial sideouts for the Bengals to come from behind in Game 4 and take the match 20-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-23.
