PROVO -- In one of their worst defensive performances in school
history, the BYU Cougars were crushed 54-28 by the
Florida State Seminoles on Saturday night in LaVell Edwards Stadium.
Gone are BYU's hopes for a possible BCS-busting season, after the
Seminoles did everything they wanted to do offensively in the
stunning route over a BYU that had surprised Oklahoma 14-13 just two
weeks ago.
Florida State took a 30-13 halftime lead, and killed any BYU dreams
of a comeback when Greg Reid intercepted a Max Hall pass and returned
it 63 yards for a touchdown to open the second half.
Florida State converted on its first nine third-down chances and did
not punt until a minute remained in the third quarter.
BYU cut the lead to 44-21 with an 80-yard touchdown pass to McKay
Jacobson, but Hall was intercepted two more times in the fourth
quarter.
