Real Salt Lake's Kyle Beckerman will be named to the U.S. men's national team for its upcoming World Cup qualifying game against El Salvador at Rio Tinto Stadium on Sept. 5, team officials said.

The midfield captain will earn his 10th cap with the national team, if he plays against El Salvador or Trinidad & Tobago in Port of Spain on Sept. 9.

The 27-year-old Beckerman was not called up for the Americans' last qualifying game in Mexico earlier this month, but clearly impressed national team coach Bob Bradley with his strong performance at the Gold Cup earlier this summer. He has never played in a World Cup qualifying game.

The rest of the U.S. roster is expected to be announced Thursday.

Since RSL does not play next week, Beckerman will not miss any games for the club while he plays for the national team.

Out of action

Midfielder Will Johnson will miss RSL's game at Kansas City on Saturday, on account of the yellow card he picked up for a dangerous foul on Chivas' Jesse Marsch in the 58th minute. It was Johnson's fifth yellow card, triggering an automatic one-game suspension.

Uncertain status

Yura Movsisyan was not on the 18-man roster for RSL, watching instead in street clothes from the stands.

The embattled striker, who plans to join Randers FC in Denmark after the season, was left home from the game at New England last weekend, and missed practice this week - both times, team officials said, because of his lingering shoulder injury, in addition to an illness. It's unclear whether he will make the trip to Kansas City on Saturday.

On the shelf

Salt Lake City's Justin Braun was not in the lineup again for Chivas USA, having not played since June 6 because of a concussion. One of the team's pleasant surprises last season, the forward from Skyline High School has played just seven games this season, scoring one goal.

Taking a seat

Chivas goalkeeper Zach Thornton left the game at halftime after aggravating the quadriceps injury he suffered during the MLS All-Star Game at Rio Tinto, with Lance Parker replacing him and allowing RSL's three second-half goals.

Strange look

For the first time, RSL wore the unusual combination of white tops with blue shorts.

The reason?

Team officials said the referees thought the dark blue Chivas road jerseys too easily could be mistaken for the blue on the sleeves of the RSL home uniforms. But Chivas had not brought any other uniforms, so RSL had to change.

"It was a league error, so I'm expecting a check from them," coach Jason Kreis joked, referring to his numerous fines. "We make errors, we're always sending checks their way. I'm expecting a check in return."
