Stallworth released from jail

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Donte' Stallworth was released from a Miami jail Friday after serving 24 days of a 30-day sentence for DUI manslaughter. Stallworth, 28, struck and killed a pedestrian in an early-morning crash March 14. He has been suspended indefinitely by the NFL.

Investigators are looking for a gunman who fled the scene in a car. They did not have a motive.

Phelps withdraws with sore neck

swimming » Michael Phelps withdrew from the 100-meter freestyle at the U.S. national championships in Indianapolis because of a sore neck. Phelps has qualified for the world championships later this month in the 100 and 200 butterflys and the 200 free.

Croatia leads U.S. 2-0 in Davis Cup

tennis » Marin Cilic outlasted Mardy Fish in five sets to give Croatia a 2-0 lead over the United States after the opening singles of their Davis Cup quarterfinal in Porec, Croatia. Cilic beat Fish 4-6, 6-3, 6-7 (3), 6-1, 8-6. Earlier, Ivo Karlovic had 47 aces and rallied from two sets down to beat James Blake 6-7 (5), 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (3), 7-5 on an indoor clay court.

The best-of-five series resumes today with doubles and concludes with reverse singles Sunday.
