Las Cruces, N.M. » Gary Wilkinson had 22 points and a career-high 14 rebounds Saturday night as Utah State beat New Mexico State 77-67 and pushed its winning streak to 10 games.
Utah State (15-1, 3-0 Western Athletic Conference) led 38-34 at halftime and 54-44 with 11 minutes remaining after an 8-0 run sparked by a three-point play from Wilkinson.
New Mexico State (8-9, 2-2) closed to 54-51 on Jahmar Young's 3-pointer with 9 minutes left before the visiting Aggies pulled away.
Young finished with 18 points while Wendell McKines and Troy Gillenwater each added 11.
The lead never changed hands in the second half as Utah State rebounded New Mexico State 34-26.
Wilkinson went 7-for-10 from the field and hit all eight attempts from the foul line.
Tai Wesley added 15 points and Jared Quayle Jr. had 11 as Utah State finished with a 54 field-goal percentage.
Young had a trio of three-pointers and was 6-for-11 from the field. McKines finished with a team-high nine rebounds.
Both teams struggled to find build momentum at times as Utah State had 21 turnovers and the host Aggies had 18.
Utah State finished the game by shooting 53.8 percent from the field (28-for52) and 75 percent from the free throw line (15-for-20). New Mexico State shot 43.1 percent overall (22-for-51) -- including 43.8 percent from behind the arc (7-for-16) -- and went 16 of 21 (76.2 percent) from the free-throw line.
