Switzerland's Carlo Janka started way back in the field in 65th to finish a surprising second in the World Cup downhill opener. Sweden's Hans Olsson was third.
Bode Miller, who won two training runs this week, finished 16th. Didier Cuche of Switzerland, the World Cup downhill champion, was 32nd.
Fill, the day's 10th skier, completed the men's Olympic downhill run in 1 minute, 47.40 seconds. Janka capitalized on some sunshine breaking through the clouds to place second, just 0.08 behind the winner. Olsson was third 1:47.56.
Women's giant slalom
France's Tessa Worley overcame driving snow and poor visibility to win a giant slalom at the Aspen (Colo.) Winternational for her first World Cup victory.
Worley, whose previous best was fifth place, was followed by Tanja Poutiainen of Finland and Elisabeth Goergl of Austria.
Lindsey Vonn of the United States was fourth, turning in a strong effort after her slalom victory in Finland despite banging her knee in training two weeks ago.
Worley completed the second run over the 45-gate course in 1:08:99, finishing with a combined time of 2:12.86. Poutiainen was next in 2:13.14, with Goergl at 2:13.57 and Vonn at 2:13.73.
The Aspen Winternational concludes today with a slalom.
Ski jumping
Simon Ammann won the World Cup ski jumping season opener at Kuusamo, Finland, and Finland took a team jumping event rescheduled from Friday ahead of Austria and Germany.
Ammann, the 2006 world champion and a former Olympic gold medalist from Switzerland, edged a strong Austrian trio with jumps of 131 and 126.5 meters for 260.5 points in the individual event.
Following Ammann were Wolfgang Loitzl and Gregor Schlierenzauer. Defending World Cup champion Thomas Morgenstern was fourth.
Nordic combined
World Cup champion Ronny Ackermann of Germany won the opener of the Nordic combined season at Kuusamo, Finland. He was followed by Janne Ryynanen and Anssi Koivuranta, both of Finland.
Bill Demong of the United States, third overall in the World Cup last season and a silver medalist at the worlds in Japan, was 27th.
Nordic combined features a new format this season. A one-jump ski jump is followed by a 10-kilometer freestyle cross-country ski race.
Luge World Cup
Gerhard Plankensteiner and Oswald Haselrieder of Italy won the season-opening luge World Cup doubles race at Igls, Austria.
Plankensteiner and Haselrieder finished in a two-run combined time of 1 minute, 19.038 seconds after setting a new track record of 39.433 seconds in their first run.
Andreas and Wolfgang Linger of Austria finished second.
Defending overall World Cup champions Patric Leitner and Alexander Resch of Germany finished fifth.
The luge World Cup event continues today with men's and women's singles.
