Josh Beckett probably will miss the opener of Boston's first-round AL playoffs series against the Los Angeles Angels, a person in the Red Sox organization with knowledge of the plans told The Associated Press.
Beckett, who was expected to start Wednesday night's game, likely will be pushed back, the person said, speaking on condition of anonymity because the team had not announced its rotation.
The possibility that Beckett might be sidelined was first reported by the Boston Herald. It reported he had an oblique injury, citing an unidentified source.

HBO's made-for-television documentary, ''Wait 'Til Next Year: The Saga of the Chicago Cubs,'' is scheduled to debut Sept. 26. The film will focus on the fact that Chicago has now gone 98 years since its last World Series championship. It also takes a look at Bill Goat Curse, the huge collapse of 1969 and definitely Steve Bartman.
