The game was in Cottonwood's control quick, as it jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter on two Steve Romero touchdown passes. The second of the two came after a botched snap flew over his head, then bounced right back into his hands, and he found Brayden Payne for the score.
The ball seemed to bounce the right way for Romero from then on, with him going 10-for-14 for 131 yards and two more 14-yard touchdowns.
The rest of the Colts' offense came from tailback Isi Sofele, who ran for 134 yards on 15 carries and punched in the other three touchdowns on the ground. With that trio of scores, Sofele's season tally is now up to 14 touchdowns in only five games.
On the other side of the ball, the Colt defense played lights out, just like it has since region play started up.
West seemed like a shadow of the team that had earned two region wins, racking up only 165 total yards. The Panthers' usually consistent back, Tana Afeaki, was bruised and battered the entire game, finishing with only 32 yards rushing and a meager 2.3 per carry average.
Though his team has now won three straight shutouts by at least 35 points, Colts coach Cecil Thomas praised the Panthers for battling.
"Those kids play hard. They bring a lot of pressure and they have a lot of big physical kids at West High School," he said. "We just try to take advantage of what people bring to us."
* The Cottonwood offense accumulates 355 total yards on 16 first downs.
* Colt running back Isi Sofele scores three more touchdowns, bringing his season total to 14.
