Posted: 12:52 PM- Here's a message to all Class 5A football teams: The Bingham Miners aren't on the verge of calling the season off, there is no panic mode in the Bingham camp, the playoffs aren't a distant goal because of an 0-2 start, it's first 0-2 start since 1992.

Oh, yeah, coach Dave Peck still expects to compete for

"I really do think we're going to be there in the end, when it's all said and done," Peck said. "We still have a good team. We had a great day of practice on Monday. We just ran into a great team in Alta and a great team in Skyline."

Of course, it's well known that expectations for the Miners were through the roof before the season started.

Then came the 24-17 loss to Skyline in the season opener in a road game that was originally slated to be a home game.

Last week brought the 27-19 defeat at the hands of Alta in a game Bingham led 17-3 in the first quarter. The Miners jumped ahead, and most part, because of stellar special teams play.

But once the Hawks settled down, they dominated Bingham on both sides of the football. That's what disappointed Peck the most.

If he's accustomed to one thing, he's accustomed to not losing the battle on the offensive line. He's accustomed to being able to run the football, and that wasn't there last Friday.

Still, the Miners have too much talent not to succeed and Peck knows it. The 0-2 beginning of the season is frustrating, but other than pride, it hurts little, since it's region play that counts the most.

"The preseason really doesn't mean anything. We need to do well in the region and we need to make the playoffs," Peck said. "If we can do those things, I still believe we can be there in the end."

Quest for a record

Timpview has won two consecutive Class 4A titles, and it's gunning for a third this fall.

The T-birds also have a state record in their sites, with Friday's 57-12 win over Spanish Fork, Timpview has pushed its win streak to 25 games, which is good for the second-longest streak in state history. The T-birds do have a test when they face Lone Peak on the road this Friday, but assuming they can defeat the Knights, it looks as if the record of 28, set by Rich, is in dire jeopardy.

No rest for 'Diggers

Jordan doesn't have a break in sight when it comes to the rest of the season. The Beetdiggers, fresh off a huge upset of Massillon of Ohio, face Layton on Friday, a team hungry for a win. Next week brings a trip to Bingham, followed by a home game against Riverton. And after three winnable games, the season closes with matchups against Skyline and Alta.

This isn't the way Jordan wanted to celebrate defeating one of the top teams in the country.
