Posted: 1:39 PM- Ever since she scored 34 goals her freshman season, Nikisha Fernandes, a senior at Woods Cross High, has grabbed a great deal of attention.

And she continues to do so.

Fernandes - one of the most dangerous strikers in state, perhaps only second to Alta's Kealia Ohai - told The Salt Lake Tribune on Wednesday morning she has committed to San Diego State, bypassing other full-scholarship offers from defending NCAA champion USC and the University of Utah.

"I felt closer to the coaching staff there, and I have some friends on that team," Fernandes said of the Aztecs. "For me, I felt like I needed to get out of the state and get away."

Fernandes transferred to Woods Cross last spring from Northridge. She led the Knights to three Class 5A state tournament appearances, including two to the quarterfinals.

Woods Cross will start the season against Davis on Tuesday.
