Former BYU receiver Austin Collie is finally calling it quits, it appears.

Collie, 30, notified the British Columbia Lions of the Canadian Football League that he intends to retire, the club announced on Wednesday.

After two years away from football, Collie joined the CFL club last year at this time, reuniting with former BYU quarterback John Beck.

After a fantastic start — he caught 11 passes for 149 yards and two touchdowns in his first two games — Collie cooled off quite a bit and finished the season with 43 catches for 439 yards and seven TDs. The Lions went 7-11 and Collie appeared in 16 games.

Collie became the most prolific receiver in BYU history before he was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in 2009, records that were broken by Cody Hoffman, who played one more season in Provo than Collie did.

In five NFL seasons, Collie caught 179 passes for 1,908 yards and 16 touchdowns.

But a rash of injuries, including three concussions, cut short his NFL career and caused him to seek more playing time in Canada.

Collie lives in Utah, and has been working with Cognitive FX, a concussion rehabilitation and research clinic that is based in Provo.
