Snubbed by the Wooden Award and the Oscar Robertson Trophy watch lists, BYU basketball star Kyle Collinsworth received some good news on Monday. The senior point guard is one of 10 players on the watch list for the 2016 Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Award, which is presented by the College of the Holy Cross.

Last week, Collinsworth was left off the 20-member Wooden Award Midseason watch list and the 25-member Robertson Trophy watch list. Both of those are Player of the Year awards, regardless of position.

Collinsworth is on the watch list of 50 players for the Naismith Trophy — which also purports to honor the Men's College Player of the Year. That list was released last Wednesday.

The other nine point guards on the Cousy Award watch list are Indiana's Yogi Ferrell, Iowa State's Monte Morris, Kentucky's Tyler Ulis, Maryland's Melo Trimble, Notre Dame's Demetrius Jackson, Oakland's Khalil Felder, Oregon State's Gary Payton Jr., Providence's Kris Dunn and SMU's Nic Moore.

Collinsworth is averaging 15.1 points, 7.8 rebounds, 7.5 assists and 2.1 steals per game. He had registered nine double-doubles and four triple-doubles, the second-most triple-doubles in a single season in NCAA history. He's got 10 triple-doubles in his career, an ongoing NCAA record.

Saturday, Collinsworth became BYU's career rebounding leader with 923, passing Michael Smith (922). He's also BYU's all-time assist leader.

"That's quite an accomplishment," BYU coach Dave Rose said Saturday after BYU beat Pepperdine 88-77 at the Marriott Center. "A week ago or so, Matt Montague sent me a text when Kyle broke his assist record. We are texting back and forth. I just realized that a lot of guys have played here, and there have been a lot of good players, and that's amazing.

If you get the leading assist guy, and the leading rebounder, in a school that has as much basketball tradition, [that's special]. That's a guy who has played his heart out, night after night."

Collinsworth took a little heat on social media websites Saturday night after he proclaimed himself the best rebounding point guard in the country. Some folks said it sounded arrogant. I say it isn't bragging if its true, and Collinsworth didn't say it in a cocky or arrogant manner. He said it matter-of-factly.

Here's his entire response when asked about the rebounding milestone:

"Yeah, it is surreal. I remember my freshman year, I got put in at the four [power forward]. I started at the four the last 10 or so games. I started rebounding like crazy. Every game was a double-digit rebounding game. I had a 15-rebound game in the tournament. I just started rebounding and from there I just [kept it up].

I rebounded great in high school, too. I have just always done that, and it has been that way.

It is remarkable to see it add up. You know, at the start of the season, I wasn't really aware that I needed to average a lot of rebounds a game to get this.

So, it is surreal, it is a great accomplishment, and it is just how I play. I am the best point guard rebounding in the country, and that's just how I've always played. No one is going to rebound better than me, for my position. I try to do that day in and day out for my team."

Dave Rose had a pretty funny line Saturday when asked about the players staying calm when an opponent is making a run.

"I think our guys do a pretty good job of staying calm," Rose said. "The staff doesn't really stay calm very well."

Rose continued: "But those are probably, you break the game down into four minute segments, with those media timeouts, in the first four minutes of the game and the first four minutes of the [second] half, might have been the worst four minutes back to back as far as, that we have played. But hey, they are good. They are a good team. It is a tough matchup. They know what they are looking for. They can isolate you, and get you in to tough spots. Pretty physical game tonight, and our guys responded and played well."
