Provo • BYU's women's basketball didn't close the regular season well, losing four of its last five games, but the West Coast Conference's coaches didn't hold that against Cougar star Morgan Bailey.

Bailey, a 6-foot-2 senior forward from Orem, is the WCC's Player of the Year, the league announced Tuesday.

BYU's Lexi Eaton, a junior guard, made the Alll-WCC First Team for the second-straight year, along with Bailey.

It was the second-straight time a BYU player has been named Player of the Year; Jennifer Hamson earned the top honor last year.

Bailey finished league play ranked first in field-goal percentage (51.7), first in defensive rebounding (9.1) and second in overall rebounding (10.9). She was fourth in scoring (18.0) and earned the WCC's Player of the Week honor twice.

Eaton, a 5-10 junior guard from Springville, led the WCC in scoring with a 21.4 average and was 11th in rebounding (6.8).

San Diego's Sophie Ederaine is the Defensive Player of the Year, while SMC's Stella Beck is the Newcomer of the Year. There was a three-way tie for Coach of the Year, with Gonzaga's Lisa Fortier, Pacific's Lynne Roberts and SMC's Paul Thomas sharing the honor.

The fifth-seeded Cougars will meet No. 4 seed SMC on Thursday at 9 p.m. MST in a conference tournament quarterfinal at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.
