The host El Paso Chihuahuas held off the Salt Lake Bees for a 5-4 victory on Saturday night in a Pacific Coast League game.
The Bees had runners at second and third with one out in the ninth, with one run scoring on a groundout by Kaleb Cowart, but the tying run was stranded at third when Jefry Marte grounded out to end the game.
Salt Lake's Ramon Flores hit a three-run homer in the fifth inning to tie the game at 3-3.
But El Paso's Christian Villanueva led off the bottom of the sixth inning with a single off of Salt Lake starter Troy Scribner, who then walked Ryan Schimpf. Jabari Blash followed with a double off of the wall in center field to bring home both runners.
Scribner (9-3) took the loss, as he went five innings and allowed five runs, four earned, on seven hits with six strikeouts and two walks. Brooks Pounders, Jason Gurka and Justin Miller combined to throw four scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
Flores, with two hits and three RBIs, extended his hitting streak to 17 games, while Shane Robinson added three hits, including a double, to stretch his hitting streak to 10 games. Rey Navarro chipped in with three hits and two runs scored and Cesar Puello went 2 for 3. With the loss and Albuquerque's 4-1 win over Las Vegas, the Bees' lead over the Isotopes in the Pacific Southern Division shrinks to 41/2 games, while the Chihuahuas pull to within six games with one game on Sunday before heading into the three day All Star Break.
