The Bees won the first game of their three-game series with the Fresno Grizzlies, 6-5, in 10 innings when Ryan LaMarre drew a walk-off walk with the bases loaded to force in Eric Young Jr. to score the game's winning run. Young went 3-for-6 with a stolen base and a run scored for the Bees.
Fresno's Colin Moran hit a solo home run in the top of the ninth to tie the score. It marked the second night in a row the Bees gave up a lead in the ninth inning.
Turning Point • The first three batters of the 10th inning reached base on a single and two walks, and LaMarre drew a walk on a 3-2 count to force in the winning run.
Bees MVP • LaMarre went 0 for 4, but he drew two walks including the biggest at-bat of the game in the bottom of the 10th inning to give the Bees the win.
Hidden Hero • Shane Robinson went 2 for 3 with a walk and RBI. He also recorded an outfield assist from left field.
Flashing Leather • In the sixth inning, Robinson corralled a ball hit to the wall in left field and fired a throw to second base in time to catch Fresno's Tyler White in a rundown as he attempted to stretch it into a double.
Quoteworthy • "It took the right person at the right time to be able to go into a situation like that where they were going to be brutalized not only physically but mentally and emotionally and still come out on top and still play successfully," Bees outfielder Eric Young Jr. said of Jackie Robinson. "Throughout all that, he opened the door for a lot of African American players and, I believe, opened the door for Latin players as well."
Angel Angle • The Angels have platooned Jefry Marte and C.J. Cron at first base so far this season However, there could be a logjam when Luis Valbuena comes off the disabled list he went on the 10-day DL on March 30 that may necessitate either Cron or Marte being sent down to Triple-A. Neither started for the Angels on Saturday night with Albert Pujols playing first base and Mike Trout at designated hitter.
What's next • The Bees continue their three-game series with Fresno on Sunday afternoon. The 1:05 p.m. starts marks the first day game of the season at Smith's Ballpark.
