Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Shelby Miller, on a rehab assignment in Triple-A, threw a complete game in the opener of a doubleheader as the Reno Aces beat the Salt Lake Bees 1-0 on Thursday. In the nightcap, Salt Lake had eight hits and two home runs, courtesy of Cal Towey and Angel Rosa. Salt Lake salvaged a split, winning 9-3 in front of 6,571 at Smith's Ballpark.

Turning Point • Trailing by two runs with two outs in the third, Salt Lake's Sherman Johnson broke through with a two-RBI single that escaped the reach of Aces second baseman Ildemaro Vargas. The hit tied the game and set off a six-run inning.

Hidden Hero • Lucas Luetge relieved starter Geoff Broussard and pitched two-plus scoreless innings, striking out two and garnering the win in the second game.

Bees MVP • Salt Lake has recorded one grand slam this season, and it occurred Thursday. With the game tied at 3 in the third, first baseman Towey hit the grand slam to right field, giving Salt Lake the lead.

Flashing Leather • In the second inning of the first game, Bees centerfielder Quintin Berry made an over-the-head catch while crashing into the outfield wall, robbing Peter O'Brien of what looked to otherwise have been a homer.

Quote-worthy • "I was just looking for a pitch up and in, something I could drive," Towey said. "It felt good to do what I've been working on all season, and I had no idea we hadn't recorded a grand slam."

Angel Angle • Former Bees' first baseman Ji-Man Choi blasted two home runs in Los Angeles' 8-6 loss to the Oakland A's.

History Lesson • On August 4 th , 1996, the Buzz score ten runs in the sixth inning on their way to a 12-1 rout of Albuquerque. Jamie Ogden caps off the outburst with a grand slam home run. Todd Walker drives in three for Salt Lake.
