Des Moines, Iowa • Kaleb Cowart hit a run-scoring double in the fourth inning, leading the Salt Lake Bees to a 5-0 win over the Iowa Cubs in the first game of a doubleheader on Wednesday.

The double by Cowart started the scoring in a three-run inning and gave the Bees a 1-0 lead. Later in the inning, Rafael Ortega and Sherman Johnson hit RBI singles.

Salt Lake starter Tyler Skaggs (3-2) picked up the win after allowing just one hit over 5 2/3 scoreless innings. Opposing starter Drew Rucinski (5-9) took the loss in the Pacific Coast League game after giving up three runs and five hits over four innings. Jose Valdez pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings for his fourth save of the season.

The Cubs were held off the scoreboard for the second time this season, while the Bees' staff recorded their third shutout of the year.

Cubs 6, Bees 3 (Game 2) • Mark Zagunis had two hits and three RBI, and Jake Buchanan allowed just four hits over 5 2/3 innings as the Iowa Cubs topped the Salt Lake Bees 6-3 in the second game of a doubleheader on Wednesday.

Buchanan (9-5) picked up the win after he struck out four and walked two while allowing three runs.

Salt Lake started the scoring in the first inning. After reaching base with two outs on an error, Nick Buss scored on a double by Kaleb Cowart.

After Iowa scored two runs in the first, the Cubs added to their lead with four runs in the fifth inning, including a two-run double by Zagunis.

Kyle McGowin (4-7) went 4 2/3 innings, allowing six runs and seven hits in the Pacific Coast League game. He also struck out one and walked four. Corey Black pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings for his fourth save of the season.
