The game • Geovany Soto and Nick Buss had two hits and two RBIs on Thursday night, leading Salt Lake to a 9-7 win over El Paso. In front of 5,758 fans at Smith's Ballpark, the Bees improved to 3-6 this season against the PCL-leading Chihuahuas.
Turning point • After El Paso took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, Salt Lake quickly countered with four runs. Quintin Berry and Buss highlighted the inning with RBI doubles off Major League veteran and losing pitcher Edwin Jackson.
Bees' MVP • Left-handed pitcher Tyler Skaggs continued his comeback from Tommy John surgery in 2014. In his second start for Salt Lake, he allowed one run on four hits in five innings. He threw 73 pitches, including 45 strikes.
Hidden hero • Sherman Johnson went 2-for-3 with two walks. His lead-off triple triggered Salt Lake's big first inning. He also walked and scored in the second and fifth innings, when the Bees bumped their lead to 8-1.
Flashing leather • With one runner one base and two out in the first inning, El Paso's Diego Goris hit a slicing fly down the right field line. Buss made a running catch, however, to save a run and retire the side.
Angel angle • After the Angels put Shane Robinson on the disabled list, they recalled outfielder Todd Cunningham from Salt Lake. To keep their 25-man roster intact, the Bees activated right-handed pitcher Geoff Broussard.
History lesson • On July 7, 1995, Brian Raabe's RBI double in the top of the 10th inning gave Salt Lake a 3-2 victory at Tacoma. Pitcher Carlos Pulido retired the final 10 batters he faced to get the win.
