The game • Las Vegas starter Gabriel Ynoa scattered four hits over seven innings and Eric Campbell ripped a three-run homer Saturday night, leading the 51s to an 8-0 victory over Salt Lake in front of 14,153 fans at Smith's Ballpark.
Turning point • Las Vegas snapped a scoreless tie with a six-run fourth off losing pitcher Chris Jones (3-6). A key play? Gavin Cecchini led off with a single and was picked off, replays showed. But he was called safe.
Bees' MVP • Left fielder Rafael Ortega went 2-for-5 to extend his Salt Lake hitting streak to seven games. He singled in the first and fourth innings. He is 4-for-9 in the series against Las Vegas.
Hidden hero • Salt Lake reliever Lucas Luetge retired the side in order in the eighth inning. He needed just 10 pitches. Luetge has not allowed a hit in his last three appearances.
Flashing leather • With one out and a runner on second base in the top of the sixth inning, Salt Lake third baseman Kaleb Cowart saved a run with a diving catch behind the bag on Nevi Ashley's line drive.
Quoteworthy • Asked what he must work on after being sent down this week, Bees' pitcher Greg Mahle said, "I've been getting ahead of hitters, I just need to finish them off. I got into a habit of messing around when I got them 0-2 and 1-2. So I just need to attack them at that point. Once I do that, I'll be on the right track."
Angel angle • After three starts for Salt Lake, Cy Young Award-winner Tim Lincecum pitched the parent L.A. Angels to a 7-1 win at Oakland on Saturday. He allowed a run and four hits in six innings.
History lesson • On June 18, 2000, the Salt Lake Buzz defeated Memphis, 6-3, to set a franchise record with their 10th straight victory. Jeff Smith and Chad Allen each drove in two runs.
What's Next • Sunday: Las Vegas (Sean Gilmartin, 7-3) vs. Salt Lake (Blayne Weller, 0-0), 7:05 p.m.
