The Salt Lake Bees rebounded from their first loss of the young season, defeating the Fresno Grizzlies 2-1 behind five strong innings from starting pitcher Nate Smith, who allowed only one unearned run and had nine strikeouts.

Turning Point • Thanks to the timely pitching of Nate Smith and AJ Achter, Fresno was a meager 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position and stranded a total of 11 runners on base.

Bees MVP • Third baseman Kaleb Cowart was 3-for-4 on the night with two singles and a double, scoring the Bees' first run of the game and providing the go-ahead RBI with the game tied at 1-1 in the sixth inning.

Hidden Hero • Pitcher Cody Satterwhite faced Nolan Fontana, Roberto Pena and Leo Heras in the 8th inning and fanned all three, with a blazing fastball and a knee-buckling curve to preserve the 2-1 lead.

Flashing Leather • First baseman Jefry Marte made a spectacular leaping catch off a sharp line drive by Fresno DH Jon Singleton in the 2nd, saving a run and robbing Singleton of extra bases in the process.

Quoteworthy • "Nate [Smith] didn't necessarily have his best stuff tonight and got in a little bit of trouble a couple of times but when he needed to bear down and make pitches, he did," manager Keith Johnson said.

Angel Angle • Relief pitcher AJ Achter, who is on the Los Angeles Angels 40 man roster and pitched Saturday in the majors against the Texas Rangers, pitched two scoreless innings.

History Lesson • On April 12, 2001, New Orleans pitcher Travis Driskell hit three Salt Lake batters in the first three innings. Driskell drilled Jeff DaVanon, Jamie Burke and Scott Morgan in the Stingers' 6-5 win.

What's next • Salt Lake Bees (5-1) RHP Yunesky Maya (1-0, 3.18ERA) vs. Fresno Grizzlies (2-2) LHP Tommy Shirley on Wednesday at 6:35 p.m. —
