Todd Cunningham hit Salt Lake's first homer of the season — a three-run shot — to power the Bees to a 7-4 win over Sacramento on Sunday at Smith's Ballpark. Salt Lake swept its season-opening series for the first time since 2008.

Turning Point • Trailing 1-0, the Bees exploded for six runs in the second inning, highlighted by Jett Bandy's RBI double, Rafael Ortega's two-run single and Cunningham's two-out home run.

Bees MVP • Salt Lake's Tyler Skaggs made his first start since Tommy John surgery in 2014. He allowed one run and three hits in three innings. Two hits were bunts. Skaggs struck out one, walked two and threw 42 pitches, including 26 strikes.

Hidden Hero • With Salt Lake's lead down to 6-4 in the seventh, reliever Javvy Guerra inherited a bases-loaded situation. He struck out Sacramento's Andrew Susac with a 3-2 fastball to end the threat.

Flashing Leather • In the top of the third, Sacramento's Mac Williamson hit a hard grounder up the middle. Shortstop Gregorio Petit fielded the ball going to his left and made a strong, spinning throw for the out.

Quoteworthy • Manager Keith Johnson, on Skaggs' performance: "Him, just getting out there, is a step forward. Obviously he had a little bit of nerves early but, overall, his outing was good. He came out of it healthy."

Angel Angle • The Bees opened the season with eight of the Los Angeles Angels' top 30 prospects on the roster, according to mlb.com. Cunningham is No. 28.

HISTORY LESSON • On April 10, 2007, against Tucson, Salt Lake's Nathan Haynes hit one of 14 inside-the-park home runs in franchise history. In 44 games with the Bees, he hit .386 with four homers and 32 RBIs.
