The Salt Lake Bees scored the first five runs of the game (four in the first and another in the second), however, the Las Vegas 51s scored the next nine runs to take control of the game on their way to a 12-7 victory over the Bees in front of an announced 4,637 at Smith's Ballpark on Sunday night. The Bees have now lost three of the past four.
The visitors sent 10 batters to the plate in a five-run third inning — just as the Bees did in the first — and followed up with four runs in the fourth. Highly touted New York Mets' shortstop prospect Amed Rosario went 3 for 4 with a triple and three RBIs, while catcher Xorge Carrillo also had three hits for Las Vegas (32-51) and Travis Taijeron scored four runs.
Turning Point • After Las Vegas tied the score with five runs in the third, the Bees couldn't manage to stop the bleeding in the fourth. The floodgates opened in the fourth when third baseman Jefry Marte committed a throwing error that allowed a run to score.
Bees MVP • Cesar Puello went 2 for 3 with a towering home run, a walk, two RBIs and two runs scored.
Hidden Hero • Catcher Carlos Perez went 2 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI.
Flashing Leather • Puello, who had missed a diving attempt in the third inning, made a diving catch just inches from the ground in the eighth inning on a sinking line drive hit by Josh Rodriguez.
Angel Angle • Los Angeles released outfielder Michael Bourn. Bourn, who the Angels signed on June 1 in the wake of Mike Trout's injury, batted .260 with a .317 on-base percentage and a .365 slugging percentage in 23 games. The Angels also announced that Trout, who was voted an All-Star starter this season, will rehab with High-A Inland Empire.
HIstory lesson • The Bees committed just 11 errors in June, and they entered Sunday with a .985 fielding percentage. The franchise record for best single-season fielding percentage is .983 set in 2011. The team committed just 92 errors in 2011.
