The Salt Lake Bees broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the top of the seventh inning, but host Memphis plated three in the bottom of the frame to give the Redbirds a 3-2 win in the opener of the Pacific Coast League series.
With two outs in the top of the inning, Dustin Ackley singled and took third on an errant pickoff throw. Rey Navarro received an intentional walk and Sherman Johnson walked to load the bases. Bo Way grounded a single to center to give the Bees a 2-0 advantage.
Nick Martini singled to lead off the bottom of the seventh, and with one out, Tyler O'Neill belted a two-run homer off of Salt Lake starter Daniel Wright to tie the game. Adolis Garcia tripled on the next pitch to end Wright's night. Deolis Guerra hit Patrick Wisdom with a pitch to put runners at first and third. Guerra got former Bee Alberto Rosario to ground into an apparent inning-ending double play, but Wisdom was ruled safe, allowing the go-ahead run to score.
Wright (4-7), pitching in his hometown of Memphis, went 61⁄3 innings and allowed three runs on five hits with five strikeouts and no walks. The Bees managed just four hits off of four Redbirds pitchers, with Way coming up with two of them. Carlos Perez went 0 for 4 to bring his 15-game hitting streak to an end and Jefry Marte also went hitless to snap his streak at twelve games.
